Curt Gehman

I first met Mr. Axe when I was a senior in high school on the track team. His son, Kurt, was a freshman on the team and Skip liked to take pictures of everyone and give them out. He would talk to me and give me words of encouragement before the track meets. He had a way of talking to people (it was like he knew you for your whole life and sincerely cared about you). I always looked forward to seeing him at track meets and yearned for his words of wisdom. At one meet, I blew off a race and he chewed me out for not trying. I never blew off a race again after that. My father died when I was three years old, so I never had a father figure. So, when I met Skip I did get to experience what a father was for a short season. Someone who cares for you and will give you tough love when you need it. I am so grateful for his life and I will never forget the short season when he touched my life. He was a great guy and will not be forgotten.
