Condolences

Condolence From: Curt Gehman
Condolence: I first met Mr. Axe when I was a senior in high school on the track team. His son, Kurt, was a freshman on the team and Skip liked to take pictures of everyone and give them out. He would talk to me and give me words of encouragement before the track meets. He had a way of talking to people (it was like he knew you for your whole life and sincerely cared about you). I always looked forward to seeing him at track meets and yearned for his words of wisdom. At one meet, I blew off a race and he chewed me out for not trying. I never blew off a race again after that. My father died when I was three years old, so I never had a father figure. So, when I met Skip I did get to experience what a father was for a short season. Someone who cares for you and will give you tough love when you need it. I am so grateful for his life and I will never forget the short season when he touched my life. He was a great guy and will not be forgotten.

Condolence: So sorry it took me so long to post something. I knew Skip since he was in High School. I always looked up to him, not because I was always shorter, but because of the guy he was. Even as a teenager he treated this little kid very very kindly and I never forgot that. Even though I wasn't close to him as he got older, every time I saw him was a great joy to me. He was one of the nicest kindest people I have ever had the pleasure, privilege and honor of knowing (along with his dear wife). Thank You for being You. GOD BLESS and RIP. With Much LOVE, Chris Zinn

Condolence: Dear Chris and family,

I am so sorry for your loss of Skip. I recall those earlier years of starting treatments. He truly fought a valiant battle and for a long time. May you feel the Lord's loving arms around you. Heaven has welcomed a special, good and faithful servant.

Most sincerely,

Condolence: Chris, Ryan and family:
I opened up the Ephrata Review this weekend and was saddened to read of Skip’s passing. Please accept my condolences. I had the privilege of getting to know Skip as a teammate during summer league basketball at Zinn’s Park. It was a competitive league so the intensity sometimes led to tempers getting the best of players. Skip was always the level-headed peacemaker. I respected his approach to the game and appreciated his quiet sense of humor. Although I didn’t have the opportunity to develop a close relationship with Skip off the court, the gentleman I knew on the court certainly had to be a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend. If there’s a basketball court inside the pearly gates, I am sure Kurt and Skip will be shooting some hoops together. May God’s gentle hands and happy memories of Skip provide comfort at this difficult time. With sympathy,
Brent Werner, Cornwall PA

Condolence: Dear Axe family, I just came from the memorial service for Skip and am enjoying so many bittersweet memories of this great saint. I was one of the Mount Zion youth group kids who really had no interest or skill in sports, but Skip was truly kind to the jocks and non-jocks alike! And honestly, I wasn't particularly interested in church at that point in my life, either, but Skip and Chris were so genuine, and I knew that what they had with God was real. Their example helped keep me from writing off a life of faith and allowed me to embrace God down the road (after some dumb choices). Thanks for your willingness to share this man with the rest of the world! You guys will continue to be in my prayers as you deal with this loss.

Condolence: Chris, Ryan, and family:
My condolences to you and yours during this most trying time. Skip left such an indelible impression for those privileged to know him. I fondly recall our years together at Zinn's Park as well as with the "Leola Lakers". A loss for the living; a gain for the eternal.
With sympathy,

Condolence: Chris, Ryan and family, so sorry to hear about Skip's passing. When it comes to dedicated family men, they don't come any better. Baseball is such a great game and it allowed me over the years to develop a lot of great relationships and the Axe family was one of those. You might not know this, but a couple of months after Kurt's passing, Skip came to my house and gave some money to buy something for the baseball team in Kurt's honor. I can't tell you how much that meant to me and how honored I was to tell people about it. He was quite the guy and will be missed. Happy memories, Bob Sipe
