It was a blessing...

To Miriam and Famiy: It was a special blessing to attend the Memorial Service for Phil last evening. Since I did not get to speak with each one of you personally I will share a few thoughts. I was privileged to be on Phil's "occasional call" list. I am not sure how I came by this honor - perhaps by being a member of Steelton Mennonite Church or the mother of a family of growing-up boy friends, or maybe even a part of the larger Longenecker clan. At any rate, I always enjoyed Phils' calls. They were newsy, uplifting, always appropriate and never, ever gossipy or demeaning of anyone. He had called me the afternoon before his passing and shared his excitement about the destination wedding that was planned and told of several Steelton people that had been seen at Thelma Wolgemuth's memorial service. He also spoke of his plans to attend Mennonite World Conference in Harrisburg this summer. When I received the news on Wednesday evening I was immediately saddened, but had to smile as I thought of how much he must be enjoying making connections in heaven! Love and blessings to each of you, Marian (for Dick, too)
