Reflections

This is not so much a story as it is some personal reflections regarding Phil's life.  I grew up with Phil: as neighbors in our community, as classmates at school, and attending the same church. The one thing that always stood out about Phil is how much he enjoyed people.  Social networking was what he was all about.  But it had nothing to do with his own ambitions or any particular agenda.  He simply loved connecting with people.  He treasured every friendship.  And even mere acquaintances were collected like a string of pearls, growing ever longer and more valuable to him.  In conversation, he was always looking for new connections - friends or acquaintances that he had in common with the person he was talking to.  A conversation with Phil would often include something like "I saw so-and-so the other day.  He goes to XYZ church, etc.  Do you know him?"  If your answer was "Yes", the new connection of a common friend or acquaintance would provide Phil with visible satisfaction.  If your answer was "No", then he would provide a few more details about the person in question, just to make sure that you really didn't know him.  And he was always a little disappointed when his search for a new connection came up empty.  Phil was a unique soul and I will miss him.
