Obituary for Sophie Witkowski

Sophie Witkowski
Sophie Witkowski, 93, of Terre Hill passed away Tuesday, November 17 and is now comfortable in her home in Heaven.
Sophie was born in Cleveland, Ohio to Mary (Mikzierricz) and Joseph Smialy, who had immigrated to the US from Poland. She spent her younger years in Cleveland and married John Witkowski on September 23, 1944 while John was home on leave in WWII. They moved to a new home in Parma Heights in 1954 which was home until 2011, when Sophie moved next door to her daughter, Jan.
Although Sophie worked part-time she was primarily a homemaker who enjoyed entertaining friends and relatives, raising her four children and pampering grandchildren. Sophie liked working in her garden and with flowers, but her true joy was spending time with family and friends.
Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband, John 2003, and her son James 2005. Sophie is survived by her children John (wife Kathy) of Brighton, MI, Jerry of Corvallis, OR, and Jan Garrabrandt (husband Bruce) of Terre Hill, PA; four grandchildren Tammy Malley (husband Justin) of Truckee, CA, Holly Lloyd (husband JJ) of Northville, MI, Jeff of Lyons, CO, and Jesse of Marquette, MI; and seven great-grandchildren.
Sophie was known for her infectious smile, which brought joy to everyone around her and the image of which will stay with all who knew her.
A memorial mass will take place at Our Mother of Perpetual Help, 320 Church Ave., Ephrata, at 11:00 a.m., followed by a celebration of life at the Eicher Arts Center, Ephrata, on Monday November 23, 2015 at noon.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a contribution to the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund Veterans Charity, Attn: Contributions, One Intrepid Square, W. 46th St. and 12th Ave., New York, NY 10036.
Arrangements by Stradling Funeral Homes, Inc., Akron/Ephrata.
