Obituary for Robert L. Bensing

Robert L. Bensing, 76, of Ephrata, entered into rest at Ephrata Community
Hospital on Wednesday, August 22, 2007.

He was born in Lebanon on March 25, 1931 to the late Harold and Vivian
(Olpp) Bensing. He was the husband of Sarah (Kreider) Bensing, having
celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary this past February 24th. They have
four children and ten grandchildren.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Ephrata. A
graduate of Lebanon High School, class of 1948, he served an apprenticeship
for the machinist/toolmaker trade before founding and operating Ephrata
Tool, Inc. for 39 years. He served as the first President of the Lancaster
Chapter of the National Tool and Die and Precision Machining Association.

A member of the Pennsylvania National Guard, Bob served 3 years with the
690th AA Battalion and 3 ½ years with the 165th MP Battalion.

He was a life member of the National Rifle Association and the Penn State
Alumni Association. An avid hunter (gun and bow), fisherman and golfer, he
was also a member of the Lancaster, Lebanon, Berks County, and Cocalico
Valley Historical Societies. Bob enjoyed traveling and was an active Ham
Radio operator, WA3PNS.

Bob was very active in the community. He served 16 years on the Ephrata
Area School Board, with 9 years as President; on the Lancaster County Vo-
Tech Board for 12 years, 2 years as President. He also served 26 years on
the Board of Directors of Ephrata Community Hospital, 21 years as Board
Chairman and 3 years as Vice Chairman. He was a Charter Board member of the
Ephrata Community Hospital Foundation Board. Upon retiring from the Ephrata
Hospital Board, the board of directors named the hospital board room "The
Robert L. Bensing Board Room." He also served as President for Partners of
Healthier Tomorrows and was a board member of Salud Hispana and Justice and
Mercy.

In January of 2000, Mr. Bensing was given Honorable Mention in the Ephrata
Review's "Ephrata's Greatest Residents Gallery." He was the President of
the "Friends of Eberbach" Sister City Committee for 10 years and served on
the Sister Cities International Board of Directors and was a state
coordinator for the South Central District of PA. He was a member of the
advisory board of the Shanghai Executive Training Program of Millersville
University.

Active in the Republican Committee, he served 8 years as Chairman of the
Ephrata Area and was the Committeeman for Ephrata Township. He served as
Chairman of the Lancaster County Republican Committee and also served 4
terms as an elected member of the Republican State Committee. He served on
numerous campaign committees, including Rep. Leroy Zimmerman. Bob was a
delegate to the Republican National Convention in 2004.

Bob is survived by two sons, Robert D., husband of Linda (Bridwell)
Bensing of Niceville, FL and Ronald J., husband of Linda (Witmer) Bensing of
Ephrata, two daughters, Dawn, wife of Dwight Daugherty of Ephrata and Gail,
wife of Phil Crouse of Schoeneck, and ten grandchildren, Erin, Amber,
Lindsey, Jonathan, Lacey, Lane, Adriane, Michelle, Wade and Brent.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Margie Ruth
Springborn.

Services will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, August 25, 2007 at the
First United Methodist Church, 68 N. Church Street, Ephrata. Interment will
follow in the Grandview Memorial Park, Annville, Lebanon County. A viewing
will be held from 6 to 8 PM, Friday, August 24 and also one hour prior to
services on Saturday.
