Obituary for Richard C. Weber
Richard C. “Dick” Weber, 85, of New Holland, went home to be with the Lord on December 30, at Garden Spot Village in New Holland.
He was the husband of Viola Stoltzfus Weber, to whom he was married for 63 years.
He was born in Ephrata Township and was the son of the late Abel and Ruth Kolb Weber. He was preceded in death by stepmother Ida Benner Weber, stepbrother Lloyd Weber and brother Lester Weber.
Dick retired as district sales manager for Concordia Publishing House in St. Louis, Missouri, and Thomas Nelson in Nashville, Tennessee, and most recently worked part-time for Garden Spot Auto Auction.
He was a charter member of Akron Mennonite Church and a long-time member of the Akron Lions Club. He was passionate about reading, politics, sports (all of the Philadelphia teams, especially the Phillies), hunting and motorcycle riding, and he and Viola enjoyed many long trips on their Honda Gold Wing, including the Rocky Mountains and surrounding areas.
He coached Midget-Midget baseball for a number of years, leading the Akron Cubs to two straight Eastern Lancaster County championships. He also sang baritone in the Heraldairesquartet, recording two albums, and later in the Gap Male Chorus, Village Voices and various church choirs. He served in the 1-W service program at Norristown State Hospital through the Mennonite Central Committee.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two children, Shirley A. Siegrist of Lancaster, and Richard L. Weber of Fort Myers, Florida; grandchildren, Nicholas Siegrist of Eugene, Oregon, Jocelyne Siegrist, wife of Nicholas, Emily Siegrist of Lancaster, and Austin Weber of Katy, Texas; great grand daughter Madelin R. Bibeau of Lancaster and brothers Elvin of Lititz and John of Ephrata.
A memorial service will be held at Akron Mennonite Church on Sunday, January 8. The family will greet visitors from 2:00 to 3:00. The service will be from 3:00 to 4:00. A private burial will be at the families discretion at the Akron Mennonite Church cemetery. Contributions can be made to Hospice and Community Care of Lancaster, 685 Good Dr., Lancaster, PA 17601 or Mennonite Disaster Services, 583 Airport Rd., Lititz, PA 17543.
