Obituary for Ruth W. Frey

Ruth W.  Frey
Ruth W. Snavely Frey, age 93, died on Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at Landis Homes where she resided since 2004. She was the wife of the late Harold R. Frey (April 3, 2017). Ruth was born in Lancaster County, November 15, 1923, daughter of the late Benjamin Snavely and Mabel Witmer Snavely.

Ruth and her husband Harold, started Frey’s Farm Market in Lebanon County, a family business which sold fresh-grown produce. Ruth managed the market in its early years which later expanded to include greenhouse plants. She enjoyed raising and selling bedding plants and creating floral planters.

Ruth was a faithful member of Gingrichs Mennonite Church. In her role of deacon’s wife she frequently extended hospitality to others. Ruth enjoyed volunteering at Jubilee Ministries and Sewing Circle in Lebanon County. Her volunteering spirit continued in numerous capacities at Landis Homes. Ruth loved recording family genealogy in Creative Memory Books and was a significant contributor to the 275 year history of Gingrichs Mennonite Church and Cemetery.
More recently she was a member of Lititz Mennonite Church.

She is survived by six children: daughter, Linda Frey and husband David of New Holland; daughter, Donna Frey Myers and husband Gerald of Fort Mill, SC; son, Leslie Frey and wife Gloria Hess Frey of Lebanon; son, Dennis Frey and wife Becky Hernley Frey of Lebanon; daughter, Anita Frey of East Petersburg; and daughter, Twila Frey Glick and husband Del of Washington, DC. Also surviving are three sisters, Helen Snavely of York, Miriam Longenecker of Landis Homes, Lois Snavely Frey Gray of Kennett Square; 8 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Ruth was preceded in death by husband, Harold Frey; son, Curtis Frey and sister, Irene Snavely Ramos.

A visitation will be held in the West Community Room at Landis Homes, 1001 E. Oregon Road, Lititz, on Friday evening, April 21, from 6 to 8 PM. A memorial service will be held at Landis Homes on Saturday, April 22, at 3 PM in the West Bethany Chapel. There will be a private interment at Gingrichs Mennonite Church Cemetery prior to visitation.

The family thanks Landis Homes and Landis at Home for their loving and professional care, allowing Ruth to enjoy independent living.
