Obituary for Matthew L. Lewandowski, Sr.

Matthew L.  Lewandowski, Sr.
Matthew L. Lewandowski, Sr., 85, of Mohnton, passed away on Wednesday, March 8, 2017, at Wellspan Ephrata Community Hospital.

He was born in Philadelphia to the late Louis and Helen Lewandowski and was the husband of Audrey (Oesterle) Lewandowski, with whom he shared 60 years of marriage.

He was a member of Swamp Lutheran Church in Reinholds.

Matthew was a U.S. Navy and Air Force Veteran, having served during the Korean War.

Matthew worked for Allied Chemical for 19 years, Roxborough Hospital for 20 years, where he was a plant operation supervisor, Ephrata School District for 6 years, where he was a custodian, and Swamp Lutheran Church for 9 years, where he was also a custodian. He formally retired in 1997 before moving to Lancaster County.

In addition to his wife, Matthew is survived by 3 sons, Matthew L. Lewandowski, Jr. of Coral Springs, FL, John M. Lewandowski, Sr., husband of Elaine of Stevens, and Bruce A. Lewandowski, Sr., husband of Veronica of Denver; 6 grandchildren, Tara Lewandowski and Matthew Lewandowski, III both of Florida,Sara Jean, wife of Jason Long of Ephrata, Bruce Lewandowski, Jr. of Philadelphia, John Mark Lewandowski, Jr. and companion, Kristen of Ephrata, and Amanda Lewandowski of Stevens; 5 great-grandchildren, Ethan Lewandowski, Matthew Alan Lewandowski, Caitlyn Long, Jackson Long, and Wyatt Long; and a soon to be born great-grandbaby Long; a brother, Henry and his wife Ruth Lewandowski of Alabama; a sister-in-law, Marilyn and husband Bob Earnshaw; many nieces and nephews; and his dog, Honey and cat, Sasha.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Jean Ammons; 6 brothers, Chester, John, Louis, Joseph, Wallace, and Eddie; and 3 sisters, Jane, Stella, and Jesse.

A viewing will be held on Saturday, March 11, 2017, from 9 am to 12 pm at the Swamp Lutheran Church, 275 Swamp Church Road, Reinholds. Funeral services will follow at 12 pm, with Pastor Dennis L. Trout officiating. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.
