Obituary for Alverta Schaeffer

Alverta Schaeffer
Alverta Schaeffer, 94, of Ephrata, formerly of Reinholds, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, September 4, 2016, at Ephrata Manor.

She was born in Denver to the late Norman and Sallie (Hirneisen) Martzall and was the wife of the late Earl A. Schaeffer who passed away on May 6, 2015.

She was a lifelong member of Faith United Evangelical Church in Denver, a former member of the Denver Golden Years Circle, an Auxiliary member of both the Reinholds Volunteer Fire Co. and the Reinholds V.F.W. Post 6759. She and her husband made 1000's of bed pads over the years for the Luther Acres Retirement Community. An avid crocheter, she made many lap robes for local Veterans Hospitals and women's shelters. She also enjoyed gardening, doing word search and crossword puzzles.

Alverta was a homemaker and in the earlier years she worked at the former Cinderella Knitting Mill.

Alverta is survived by 4 children, Helen, wife of Dennis Stoudt of Leesport, Jean, wife of Randy Mull of Kimberton, Richard, husband of Denise (Myer) Schaeffer of Stevens, and Janet, wife of Timothy Gockley of Newmanstown; 8 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by a son, Dale Schaeffer; 5 brothers, Elam, Clair, Earl, Leroy, and Ira Martzall, and a sister, Luella Fry.

A viewing will be held on Wednesday, September 7, 2016, from 6 to 8 pm at the Roseboro Stradling Funeral Home, 533 Walnut St., Denver. An additional viewing will be held on Thursday, from 9 to 10 am at the Faith United Evangelical Lutheran Church, 357 Walnut Street, Denver, followed by funeral services at 10:00 am, with Pastor Joseph Veres officiating. Interment will take place in the Pleasant View Cemetery.

A special thank you to Pastor Joe Veres for his presence and comfort to Mom and children. The family is especially grateful for the compassion and kindness of the staff at Ephrata Manor.

If desired, memorial contributions may be made, in Alverta's name, to her church at the above address or the Reinholds Volunteer Fire Co., 138 W. Main St., Reinholds, PA 17569.
