Obituary for Rachel (Stricker) Shimp

Rachel (Stricker)  Shimp
Rachel (Stricker) Shimp, 88, of Denver, passed away on Monday, February 16, 2015, at the Ephrata Community Hospital.

She was born in West Cocalico Township to the late Charles and Florence (Krick) Stricker and was the wife of the late Glenn A. Shimp, with whom she shared 54 years of marriage before his passing in 2010.

Rachel became a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in 1937 when she was 11 years old. She was a 1943 graduate of Denver High School, worked at the F and M Hat Co. for 13 years in the packing department, and then became a homemaker. She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, the seashore, and she loved animals.

Rachel is survived by a daughter, Caryll Tillman and boyfriend, Walter "Butch" Knable of Elizabethtown, 2 grandchildren, Jamie Lee Santiago and Crystal Lynn Watson; 3 great-grandsons, Gage Paul Watson, Gavin Paul Watson, and Jamison Christopher Kurtz; a brother, Robert Stricker of Reinholds, and two sisters, Mary Stricker and Charlotte Martin, both of Denver.

A viewing will be held on Monday, February 23, 2015, from 1 to 2 pm at the Roseboro Stradling Funeral Home, 533 Walnut Street, Denver. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 pm, with C. Michael Roney officiating. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.
