Obituary for David Frederick Ihde

David Frederick Ihde, 59, of Ephrata, passed away on Wednesday, August 20, 2014, at Ephrata Community Hospital.

He was born in Denville, New Jersey, to the late Frederick and Geraldine (Palmer) Ihde, and shared 30 years of marriage with his wife, Deborah (Mitchell) Ihde.

He was a member of the Akron Church of the Brethren, and the Philadelphia Chapter of the ALS Association. His hobbies included, playing the guitar, singing, golfing, fishing, and canoeing. He also loved spending time with his grandchildren.

David was a US Air Force Veteran and served during Viet Nam. He later worked as a professional photographer and owned his own photography studio in Ephrata for many years.

In addition to his wife, David is survived by, a daughter, Allison, wife of Michael Irwin of Coatesville, a step-son, Jason, husband of Jamie (Scotten) Usner of Ephrata; 2 grandchildren, Amelia and Chase Usner; 4 brothers, Thomas Ihde of Virginia Beach, VA, Mark Ihde of East Stroudsburg, Dan, husband of Sharon Ihde of Bakersfield, CA, and Steve, husband of Bernadette Ihde of Kansas City, KS; 3 sisters, Louise, wife of Rick Ulan of Passaic, NJ, Rita Clark of Emporia, KS, and Theresa, wife of Jim Dougherty of Oak Ridge, NJ.

A viewing will be held on Thursday, August 28, 2014, from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm at the Akron Church of the Brethren, 613 Main St., Akron. Funeral services will follow at 7:30 pm, with Pastor Tom Weber officiating.

Interment service with full military honors will take place in the Indiantown Gap National Cemetery in Annville, on Friday, August 29th at 10:30 am, with prompt departure to the cemetery at 9:15 am from Akron Church of the Brethren.

Memorial contributions in David 's memory may be made to The ALS Association - Greater Philadelphia Chapter, 321 Norristown Road, Suite 260, Ambler, PA 19002. David was an advocate for ALS research and encouraged people to participate in the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge that has recently swept the nation.
