James Stuart Ferry, 51, of Denver, PA, died unexpectedly Sunday evening, July 6. Husband of Lisa (Hoppman) Ferry, father of Nicholas and Anja, both at home. He is survived by his parents, Ann Stuart of West Lawn and Ronald and Marlene of Clay; a sister, Elice (wife of Albert Darrenkamp) of Lancaster; two brothers, Ronald Ferry (husband of Karen),of Phoenixville and David Ferry (husband of Pascha) of Williamsport in addition to 7 nieces and 4 nephews.
Born in Lansdale, Pa, Jim was a 1982 graduate of Cocalico High School. He played football all 4 years and would fondly reminisce about his multiple touchdowns during the ’81 Ephrata vs Cocalico game.
Jim proudly served in US Army 1982-1988. He had been employed by Case New Holland for 26 years as master welder. He often shared photos with close friends displaying the latest farm equipment project he’d been working and stating with a big grin , “I’m feeding the world”. Friends knew he loved what he was doing! He also served on Denver Boro Recreation Committee from 2007-2012.
He had a special charm to him. In any new face, he saw a chance to make a new friend. Not only that, but to capture the moment. He was selfless to strangers in need by quickly paying for a hot meal or warm place to spend the night.
He was a proud father who enjoyed every moment spent with his children whether coaching soccer, teaching them to swim, fish or ride a bike. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and Eagles fan. His smile and kind heart will be missed.
The funeral service will be held Saturday, July 12 at 11:00 am, Swamp Lutheran Church, 275 Swamp Bridge Road, Reinholds, with Pastor Dennis L. Trout officiating. Friends may call from 10:00-11:00 am. Interment will take place in a private ceremony at a later date. Full military honors will be accorded.
