Obituary for Samuel O. Swartz

Samuel O.  Swartz
Samuel O. Swartz, 91, of Ephrata, formerly of Reinholds, passed away on Thursday, December 14, 2017, at Hospice and Community Care, Mount Joy.

He was born in Reinholds to the late Samuel and Helen (Ochs) Swartz and was the husband of the late Barbara H. (Hornberger) Swartz who passed away in 2008. Sam was a loyal care giver up until her passing.

He was a member of Swamp United Church of Christ, where he was in the choir, a former deacon, elder, president of consistory, and he taught Sunday School for 40 years. Also a member of Masonic Lodge #665 F and A.M., Ephrata, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Lancaster and Reading, Lancaster County Shrine Club, Rajah Temple A.A.O.N.M.S, Reading, Rajah Shrine Club, Reading, and Order of Eastern Star, Cloister Chapter. He was a charter member of Reinholds V.F.W. #6759, and Reinholds Lions Club.

Samuel was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during WWII. He was self-employed as an insurance agent in the Denver area for 34 1/2 years. He was also a former Lancaster County Recorder of Deeds and Justice of the Peace in East and West Cocalico for 17 years.

Samuel is survived by 4 children, James Gilbert Swartz, husband of Amy (Reitzel) of SC, Samuel O. Swartz, III, husband of Annette (Eckert) of Ephrata, Anne Elizabeth, wife of David Dennis of Middletown, and Rebecca Susan Swartz of Harrisburg; 6 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren and a sister, Evelyn M., wife of Clair L. Wolf of Ephrata.

A viewing will be held on Wednesday, December 20, 2017, from 9:30 to 11:00 AM at the Swamp Christian Fellowship Church, 390 Swamp Church Rd., Reinholds, PA 17569. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 AM with Pastor Craig Snow officiating. Interment will take place in the Swamp Cemetery. Military Honors will be accorded by the Red Rose Veterans Honor Guard and the 21 Vet Salute.
