Melvin K. Martin
Melvin K. Martin, 62, went home to be with his Lord, Wednesday, November 1, 2017 at Lancaster General Hospital due to injuries sustained in an accident 10/16/17.
He was the husband of Janet W. Martin with whom he would have shared 42 years of marriage on November 29.
Born in Lebanon, PA, he resided in the Denver/Schoeneck area all his life. He had worked as a foreman at Blue Lake Builders for approximately 22 years and currently worked in the Tool Dept at PaulB Hardware, having been employed there 11 years. He served as deacon at Pleasant Valley Mennonite Church, Ephrata, for almost 20 years and then at Bethany Mennonite Chapel, Martindale, for 4 years. Mel enjoyed working and built many things, including his own home as well as small handmade wooden chests for each of his grandchildren. He was always willing to help out wherever he could. He helped each of his children with remodel work or whatever needed fixing or improving. He also went on several mission trips to Haiti and India.
Mel is survived by his wife, Janet, and 7 children: Lisa, wife of Eric Zimmerman, Ephrata; Tracey, wife of Loren Fox, Lititz; Michelle, wife of Joshua Newswanger, Myerstown; Troy, husband of Jodi Martin, Manheim; Debra, wife of Jaired Fox, Lititz; Denise Martin, Stevens, and Deanne Martin, Stevens. In addition, he is survived by 17 grandchildren: Austin, Alan, Eric Ryan, Adam, Avery Zimmerman; Tyler, Courtney, Kelsey, Andre, Lucas Newswanger; Owen, Eli, Aleah, Caleb Martin; Parker, Maxwell, Creed Fox. Also, 3 sisters: Mary, wife of the late David Hurst, Lewisburg; Arlene, wife of Sam Zimmerman, Fleetwood; and Martha, wife of David Horst, Newburg; and 2 brothers: Ivan, husband of Ruthie Martin, Denver; and Eugene, wife of Linda Martin, Denver.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel and Esther Martin, and 2 brothers, Lester Martin and John Martin, who was married to Louise Martin.
He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother who will be greatly missed. We will remember him always for his soft-spoken manner, profound wisdom, and love for his Lord.
The family will receive the condolences of friends on Sunday, November 5, 2017, at Martindale Mennonite Church, 171 Hurst Rd, Ephrata, from 1-3 and 5-8PM. An additional receiving of friends will be held on Monday, November 6, 2017, from 1 to 2 PM at the church, followed by funeral services at 2PM. The burial will take place at Pleasant Valley Mennonite Church, 140 Pleasant Valley Rd, Ephrata, following the service.
