Obituary for Paul K. Dinger

Paul K. Dinger, 91, of Denver, passed away on Friday, January 13, 2017, at Gardens at Stevens Nursing Home.

He was born in Cocalico to the late William and Amy (Kline) Dinger and was the husband of Erla W. (Gerhart) Dinger with whom he shared 68 years of marriage.

Paul was an over 60-year member of the Wiest Memorial Church, Schoeneck. During his working years, he was a mason, first for M. E. Gerhart, and later for Eshbach Brothers, during which he completed a highlight of his career by working for two years to construct a large, three-dimensional brick mural on the N. 5th St. side of the former bank building and Callowhill Building near Reading's Penn Square, showcasing scenes of yesteryear in agriculture and industry in Pennsylvania. The mural still stands today as a testimony of his skill and passion for bricklaying as a creative, as well as construction, trade. He enjoyed the comradery of the men whom he worked with side-by-side.

He served his country during WWII in the US Navy as a 1st Class Seaman, signalman. Paul was a great handyman and enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening, especially raising roses, and sharing that passion with others. He was a past member of the Schoeneck Fire Company and Mellingers Union Cemetery Association.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, David, husband of Cindi Dinger of Manheim; 2 grandchildren, Ryan and Charis Dinger; a brother, Roy, husband of Helen Dinger; 2 sisters, Beatrice Mull and Mildred Metzler. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Marisa, and a sister, Elizabeth Haldeman.

A viewing will be held on Friday, January 20, 2017, from 6 to 8 pm, at the Roseboro Stradling Funeral Home, 533 Walnut Street, Denver. An additional viewing will be held on Saturday, January 21, at the funeral home, from 9 to 10 am, followed by his funeral service at 10 am, with Pastor Timothy Craven officiating. Interment will take place in Mellingers Union Cemetery with military honors accorded by the Red Rose Veterans Honor Guard.

Memorial contributions in Paul's memory may be made to Wiest Memorial Church, 48 S. King St., Stevens, PA 17578.
