Obituary for Richard Firestone

Richard  Firestone
Richard "Richie" Firestone, 90, of Denver, passed away on Saturday, January 7, 2017, at Ephrata Manor.

He was born in Reinholds to the late Martin and Ellen (Border) Firestone and was the husband of the late Louella (Foltz) Firestone who passed away in 2010 after sharing 62 years of marriage.

Richard was a member of the Vinemont Community Lutheran Church in Reinholds for 65 years, where he served on the church council and participated in the church barbecue for many years. He was a member of the Cocalico Sportsman Club, the Northern Lancaster County Beagle Club, the Adamstown Rod and Gun Club, and the East Fork Hunting Club. He was an avid trap shooter and hunter. He enjoyed hunting, camping, bluegrass music, and raising beagle hunting dogs.

Richard proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII. He worked for the Ephrata Manufacturing Co. for over 20 years, and then worked as a bus driver and Transportation Supervisor for Cocalico School District for 30 years, having retired in 2000.

Richard is survived by a son, Gary, husband of Dorene (Sweigert) Firestone of Reinholds, 3 daughters, Linda, wife of Richard Sweigart, Judy, wife of Martin Ingram, and Bonnie, wife of David Luck, all of Denver; 12 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by 3 brothers, Benjamin, Robert, and Ray Firestone, and a sister, Dorothy Leed.

A viewing will be held on Wednesday, January 11, 2017, from 6 to 8 pm at the Roseboro Stradling Funeral Home, 533 Walnut Street, Denver. An additional viewing will be held on Thursday, January 12, from 9 to 10 am at the funeral home, where funeral services will follow at 10:00 am, with Rev. Rodney Shearer officiating. Interment will take place in the Swamp Cemetery.
