Obituary for V. Orval Wonder

V. Orval  Wonder
V. Orval Wonder, 89, of Akron, passed away on Tuesday, January 3, 2017, at Hospice and Community Care, Mount Joy.

He was born in Lititz to the late George Dewey and Miriam Theresa (Lehn) Wonder and was the husband of Linda Fay Wonder with whom he shared 30 years of marriage.

Orval attended the Mount Zion United Methodist Church, Akron. He served his country in the US Navy during WWII. During his working years, he was employed by Armstrong Cork Co., Lancaster and Bob Lutz Oil Company, Ephrata. He owned and operated Wonder Disposal Service which operated in Akron, Ephrata, Lititz and Lancaster areas. He retired from the janitorial services in the Ephrata Area School District. He enjoyed making birdhouses, attending fireman's parades and fundraising for various fire companies.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by 2 daughters, Sharon Kendig-Mast, wife of Floyd Mast of Akron, Deborah, wife of Ronald Diem Sr. of Kinzers; 2 step sons, Tom Schwear of Ephrata, Dale Schwear of Manheim; a step daughter Connie Gutshall of Lancaster; 3 grandsons, Shawn Joshua and Justin Kendig; a granddaughter, Lori Styer and 2 great grandsons, Ethan and Owen Kendig.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Mildred May (Sprecher) Wonder.

A viewing will be held on Tuesday, January 10, 2017, from 9:30 to 11:00 am, at the Stradling Funeral Home, 30 North Ninth Street, Akron, followed by his funeral service at 11 am, with Pastor Jeffrey Martin officiating. Interment will take place in the Bowmansville Union Cemetery with military honors accorded by the Red Rose Veterans Honor Guard.
