Obituary for Nannette Tshudy (Grill)

Nannette Tshudy (Grill)
Nannette Marie (Grill) Tshudy, 74, of Ephrata, passed away on Thursday, August 4, 2016, at Wellspan Ephrata Community Hospital.

She was born on August 9, 1941 at the old Ephrata hospital, on the grounds of the Mountain Springs Hotel to the late James Augustus and Laura Elsie (Cox) Grill of Ephrata. She was the wife of James A. Tshudy with whom she shared 58 years of marriage.

Nan along with her husband Jim, were well-known antiques dealers enjoying finding, collecting, and offering antiques for many years. They retired from the antiques business about 20 years ago, but maintained a keen interest in local history and antiques. Nan was an expert in early Pennsylvania German textiles and Folk Art. She and her husband Jim bought, restored, furnished, and reared their family in the 1764 Mohler Homestead near Ephrata where they have enjoyed living for more than 40 years. Nan was also a licensed beautician who owned and operated a beauty shop for many years.

The most important element in Nan's life was her family. She demonstrated a caring and love that knew no bounds. She liked people and was a friendly, outgoing, social person and had many friends, always with a friendly and open smile and greeting.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by 2 sons, James Richard, husband of Debra Lynn (Reed) Tshudy of Stevens, David Keith, husband of Kelly Ann (Boose) Tshudy of Elverson; a daughter, Susan Christine, wife of Lee Charles Carpenter of Landisville; 3 grandchildren, Anne Marie and Eric James Tshudy and Alexandra Mae Carpenter; a great-grandson, Connor Matthew Oberholtzer; a sister, Barbara Ann, wife of Richard Smith Will of Ephrata; sister-in-law, Shirley Esther (Benedict) Grill of Ephrata. These were the people, as well as all of her extended family, that she loved and truly cared about. Her family is truly grateful for her caring and all she has taught us.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by a brother, Gerald Paul Grill.

There will be a private viewing for the family at the Stradling funeral home and interment will take place at a private service for the family at Mohler's Church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her name to your favorite charity would be appropriate and appreciated. Nan was a kind, generous, and helpful person, always willing to help and share. She will be missed by all and the world will be smaller without her.
