Obituary for Walter Ray Long

Walter Ray  Long
Walter Ray Long, 79, of Stevens, passed away on Tuesday, July 5, 2016, at home.

He was born in Brecknock Township to the late Sylvester and Anna G. (Witmer) Long and was the husband of Doris Fay (Fryberger) Long with whom he shared 60 years of marriage.

Walter was a member of East Cocalico Church of the Brethren. He formerly worked as a butcher for Youndt Sons, retired from Conestoga Wood, and later drove as a taxi for the Amish after retirement. He enjoyed camping, hunting in Potter County and vacation on several islands. Walter was a member of Reamstown Lions Club and Reamstown AA.

In addition to his wife, Walter is survived by 3 sons, Terry Lee, husband of Karen Long, Randy Dean, husband of Erma Long, Dennis Ray, husband of Cathy Long; a daughter, Tracy, wife of Jim Conley; 7 grandsons; 2 step-grandsons; 4 step-granddaughters; 2 great-grandsons; 1 great-granddaughter; 1 step-great-granddaughter; 6 step-great-grandsons and a sister, Mildred Hall.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson; a great-grandson and a sister, Jane Long.

A viewing will be held on Saturday, July 9, 2016, from 9 to 11 AM at the East Cocalico Church of the Brethren, 4 Bunker Hill Rd, Reamstown, followed by funeral services at 11 AM with Pastor John Shaffer officiating. Interment will take place in the Memory Gardens Memorial Cemetery.
