Obituary for John Edward Dillon

John Edward  Dillon
John Edward Dillon, 97, of Denver, formerly a resident of Country Meadows in Wyomissing for 5 years, passed away on Friday, November 13, 2015, at Reading Hospital and Medical Center.

He was born in West Reading to the late Charles and Dorothy (Strouse) Dillon and was the husband of the late Ruth A. (Ferguson) Dillon who died in 2008.

John was a member of the Swamp Lutheran Church in Reinholds, where he often did volunteer work. He was also a member of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of Reading, the Puritan Lodge #549 FandAM in West Reading, National Association of Retired and Veteran Railway Employees, Inc., United Transportation Union,and East End Athletic Club.

John retired as a locomotive engineer for Reading Railroad after 50 years of service.

He is survived by a daughter, D. Dale, wife of Galen P. Young of Denver; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Harold C. and Brook E. Dillon; and a sister, Grace Rightmeyer.

A viewing will be held on Thursday, November 19, 2015, from 10 to 11 am at the Swamp Lutheran Church, 275 Swamp Church Road, Reinholds, where a Masonic Service will be held at 11:00 am, followed by funeral services at 11:30 am, with Pastor Dennis L. Trout officiating, with a luncheon to follow in the church social hall. Interment will then take place in the Forest Hills Memorial Park, Inc. in (Mt. Penn) Reading.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Swamp Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, 275 Swamp Church Road, Reinholds, PA 17569, in John's memory.
