Obituary for Clayton Rissler Zimmerman

Clayton Rissler  Zimmerman
Clayton Rissler Zimmerman, 72, of Ephrata, passed away on Monday April 13th 2015, at his home.

He was born in Ephrata to the late Clayton and Katie (Rissler) Zimmerman and grew up on their farm on Stevens Road. He attended Ephrata Mennonite School and Lancaster Mennonite School.

He was the husband of Ann Lucille (Mohler) Zimmerman with whom he shared 51 years of marriage. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children Randy, husband of Kozette Zimmerman of Ephrata, Scott, husband of Beth Ann Zimmerman of Erdenheim , Michael, husband of Debra Zimmerman of Archbold, OH, and a daughter, Jennifer, wife of Michael Stoltzfus of Harrisionburg, VA. Clayton and Ann have 11 grandchildren, Jeremy, Jared, Zachary, Aaron, Benjamin Dale, Benjamin Scott, Elijah, Sydney, Adam, Luke and Himen. He is survived by 4 brothers, Ivan Zimmerman of Fivepointville, John Zimmerman of Ephrata, Earl Zimmerman of Millersville, Leon Zimmerman of Lititz, and 3 sisters, Anna Weinhold of Ephrata, Erla Martin of Akron and Ruth Zimmerman of VT.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Paul Zimmerman.


Clayton was a member of Akron Mennonite Church for over 30 years. He had worked for Ford New Holland for 30 years and had worked his way as a welder on the shop floor up to a plant manger. He then became a realtor, which he loved and worked for BHHS Homesales Realty for 25 years. Clayton was a life long member of the Akron Lions Club, served as president twice and served up literally millions of fries at the Lions Club stand during the Ephrata fair. He was an avid golfer, hunter, and surf fisherman, and a suffering Eagles and Penn State fan. He loved people, his family and the color red.


A viewing will be held on Friday, April 17th from 6 to 8 pm, at the Akron Mennonite Church, 1311 Diamond St., Akron. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 18th at 4 pm, at the Akron Mennonite Church, with Pastors Jim S. Amstutz and Richard Weaver officiating. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.

Memorial contributions in Clayton's memory may be made to the Northeast PA Lions Eye Bank, 2346 Jacksonville Rd., Bethlehem, PA 18017.
