Dr. Kenneth J. Samara
Kenneth J. Samara, 83, of Luther Acres in Lititz, formerly of Akron, passed away on February 27, 2015 at the Masonic Villages in Elizabethtown. Born in Allison Park, he was the son of the late John and Margaret (Najo) Samara. Kenneth was the husband of Carol (Harvey) Samara for 57 years.

A veteran, he served in the U.S. Army from 1953-1955 during the Korean Conflict. He graduated from Grove City College (B.A.), Penn State University (M.Ed), and Temple University (Ed.D.). He was the Director of Guidance and Curriculum Coordinator at Ephrata Area School District. He taught at Penn State, Lancaster Campus, Harrisburg Area Community College, and was an adjunct professor at Millersville University. He was a lifelong member of the NEA, a 60 year member of the Petrolia Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons in Oil City, and a member of Salem Lutheran Church in Kissel Hill. He was a past president of the Akron Lions Club.

He was an avid golfer and loved spending time with family at the beach, especially taking his grandchildren fishing and crabbing on his boat, the Samaritan II.

In addition to his wife, Carol, Kenneth is survived by two sons, Steven, husband of Kristine, of New Cumberland, PA and Mark, husband of Lori, of Olney, MD and four grandchildren, Matthew, Zachary, Nicholas and Emily.

All are welcome to join the family from 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm on Friday, March 6, 2015 in the Community Room at Luther Acres Retirement Community, 600 E. Main Street, Lititz, PA 17543, with a memorial service at 2:00 pm with Reverends William Martin, Walter Cleckley, and the Reverend Dr. Martha Shaffer officiating.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Kenneth's memory to the Masonic Villages Hospice, One Masonic Drive, Elizabethtown, PA 17022, or to Luther Acres Caring Fund, 600 E. Main St., Lititz, PA 17543.

Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family at Salem Lutheran Church Cemetery.
