Obituary for Eva Calusic

Eva (Wilpert) Calusic, 87, of Lancaster, passed away on Saturday, October 11, 2014, at Hospice and Community Care, Mount Joy, with her loving family by her bedside.

She was born July 4, 1927 and grew up on a farm in Djakovo, Croatia, daughter of the late Adam and Rose (Tornaj) Wilpert. She married Frank Calusic on July 4, 1946 in Klagenfurt, Austria.

Eva and her husband immigrated to Montreal, Canada, in 1949 and then to the United States in 1958. They owned and operated the Original Rudi’s Restaurant in Oak Ridge, NJ, for 30 years. Eva and Frank moved to Brownstown in 1987 and Eva worked as a cook for 10 years at the Ephrata Community Hospital.

She was a member of St. John Neumann Catholic Church, Lancaster, the Jefferson Township Rotary Club, NJ and was a Paul Harris Fellow. Eva enjoyed crocheting, gardening and cooking, she especially enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Eva is survived by a son, Dr. A. Peter, husband of Dr. Susan Northwall Calusic of Lancaster; a daughter, Rosemary, wife of Timothy P. Search of Lancaster; 6 grandchildren, Dr. Lisa M. Calusic, wife of Dr. Gregory Wochos of Mequon, WI, Carla S. Calusic of Lititz, Dr. Theodore F., husband of Veronica (Gutacker) Search of Conestoga, Dr. Joseph A., husband of Rebecca (Wright) Search of Linglestown, Christopher P. Search of Lancaster, Kathryn R. Search of Lancaster; 2 great-grandchildren, Eva Gabriella Search and Andrew Timothy Search.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Paul Adam Calusic and a brother, Peter Wilpert.

A viewing will be held on Thursday, October 16, 2014, from 6 to 8 p.m., at Stradling Funeral Home, 30 N. 9th St., Akron. An additional viewing will be held on Friday, October 17, from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m., at the St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 601 East Delp Road, Lancaster, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m., with Father David Dannecker and Father Michael Caulkin as Celebrants. Final Commendation and Farewell will follow in the St. Anthony Catholic Cemetery, Lancaster.
