Obituary for Terry J. Steffy

Terry J. Steffy, 63, of Stevens, passed away on Friday, October 10, 2014, at M.S. Hershey Medical Center, after an extended illness.

He was born in Reading to the late Phares and Mary (Stricker) Steffy and was the husband of Susan Summers-Steffy with whom he shared 21 years of marriage.

Terry attended Ephrata Church of the Brethren. He was a member of the Association of Builders and Contractors (ABC). He owned and operated Steffy Masonry Inc. for over 25 years. Terry was involved in various activities, participating in various booster clubs involving his children’s sporting activities, a member of the NRA, he was an avid hunter and outdoorsman, was a member of the Ducks Unlimited Association, a movie enthusiast, while in high school he was a member of the football and wrestling teams at Cocalico High School. He was a Miami Dolphin, Philadelphia Eagle and Pittsburgh Steeler fan. The family often laughed that his claim to fame was being the first person to catch the greased pig at the Ephrata Farm Show.
Terry was known as a selfless person; he was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. His heart was big and he believed it was his duty to help his fellow man. Whether someone needed a loan, groceries, oil for heat, or just a ride to work; Terry was there. Terry was known as a family man. He was always committed to his family and extended family. He was known as the man to call whenever someone needed help or advice on how to fix something. It was also extremely important for him to be at every sporting event his children participated in and support his grandchildren in whatever way possible. He spoke with pride about each of his children and grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by 2 sons, Christopher M., husband of Kendra (Roberts) Steffy of Ephrata, Shannon R., husband of Lisa R. (Pote) Steffy of Denver; a daughter, Paxton J. Steffy at home; 5 grandsons, Peter M. Steffy, Dameon A. Pote, Cameron A. Steffy, Nicholas H. Steffy, Brock C. Steffy; 4 siblings, John, husband of Alberta (DeLong) Steffy of Stevens, Nancy, wife of Lamar Seifrit of Denver, Richard husband of, Kathy (Hartranft) Steffy of Denver and Thomas Steffy, companion of Rose Feister of Stevens.
