Obituary for Donald H. Mellinger
Donald H. Mellinger, 90, of Ephrata, passed away on Saturday, August 16, 2014, at Mt. Hope Nazarene Retirement Community.
He was born in Denver to the late Levi and Amanda (Hauck) Mellinger and was the husband of Charlotte H. (Hornberger) Mellinger, with whom he shared 67 years of marriage.
Donald was a member of Ephrata Church of the Brethren, Ephrata. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII during the ETO receiving 6 battle stars and 1 silver star. Donald was a life member of the VFW Post #6759. He worked in maintenance before retiring from Pharmhouse in 1992. Donald enjoyed riding his Harley, buying his first Harley in 1939. He was an avid bicyclist and had owned his own bike shop for 25 years.
In addition to his wife, Donald is survived by a son, Glen, husband of Ellen (Martin) Mellinger of Ephrata; daughter, Peggy, wife of Robert Buehler of Ephrata; sister, Clara Ruth of Ephrata; grandson, Bradley Hess and 2 step-grandsons, Larry and Matt Buehler.
He was preceded in death by 4 brothers, Adam, Wesley, Paul, Elam and 2 sisters, Edith and Florence.
A viewing will be held on Wednesday, August 20, from 9 to 10 am, at the Ephrata Church of the Brethren, 201 Crescent Avenue, Ephrata, followed by funeral services held at 10 am with Pastor Rob Eshelman officiating. Interment will take place in the Mohler's Brethren Cemetery. Military honors will be accorded by the Red Rose Honor Guard.
