Obituary for Ruth Snyder Goldfus

Ruth Snyder Goldfus, 94, of Manheim, passed away on Sunday, March 24, 2019, at Pleasant View Retirement Community.

Born in 1924 she was the daughter of the late Jacob and Jennie (Bucher) Snyder and spent her childhood in Lititz, PA. She was the wife of the late Ross Martin Goldfus whom she married in 1945.

She was a graduate of Lancaster General Hospital School of Nursing and did private duty for several years. Later in life she worked in geriatrics at Landis Homes and was then Director of Nursing at United Zion Home.

She enjoyed supporting her husband in the Christian ministry at various local Mennonite churches. After World War II, they served with Mennonite Central Committee for two years in France and Italy working mostly with orphaned children and 3 terms of missionary service in Argentina with Mennonite Missions of Elkhart, IN. The churches where they pastored were Zion Mennonite in Birdsboro, PA, for five years, and after retirement they served a year at Central Archibald Mennonite, OH, Sunnyslope Mennonite, Phoenix, AZ, and Forest Hills Mennonite, Leola, PA. They also served with the Atlantic Coast Conference for 14 years.

Ruth is survived by two sons, Joe, husband of Tobi (Brenneman) Goldfus of Frederick, MD, John, husband of LuAnn (Fellenbaum) Goldfus of Elizabethtown; a daughter, Anita, wife of Randy Heller of Lititz; a sister, Jean, wife of Donald Zehr; a grandson, Nathan Goldfus and granddaughter, Jennifer Heller.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Olive Erb and a brother, J. Robert Snyder.

She was loved by many and will be missed by all.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 30, 2019, at 2:00 PM at the Neffsville Mennonite Church, 2371 Lititz Pike, Lancaster, with Pastor Hunter Hess officiating. Interment will be private in the Akron Mennonite Cemetery.
