Obituary for Richard Vern Adams

Richard Vern Adams, 86, of Manheim Township, went home to be with his Lord on December 1, 2023.
Vern was born on April 28, 1937, at home in Akron to the late Harry F. and Erma (Reitz) Adams. He was married to Dolores Klaips-Adams and shared almost 24 years of true partnership and love. Vern was a devoted father, grandfather, and cherished his family and friends.
He attended Akron Elementary School and Ephrata High School, class of 1955. He was the “Big Man” on the varsity basketball team and played Legion baseball. Gardening was one of his passions and he excelled at whatever he planted, although in his later years, he had to relent to downsizing. After graduation, Vern worked at the Miller Hess Shoe Company. He was later employed as a manager by the Victor E. Weaver (Tyson) in New Holland. He also worked as a clerk for T. Glenn Horst Auctioneer and for Landis as a driver and worked at the Manheim Auto Auction.
Vern served his country as an Army Reservist. He was a lifelong active member of Akron Church of the Brethren.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three stepchildren, Leighan, wife of Noah Melnick, Jim Klaips, Michael, husband of Marian Klaips; a son-in-law, Norm Huhn; eight grandchildren, Madison Melnick, Preston, Ella, Rylie Mia, and Delaney Saniya Klaips, Adrian, husband of Alexa Schreiber, Brendan and Brianna Huhn; 2 great-grandchildren, Parker and Cian; a sister-in-law, Maryann Batory; four siblings, Vicky, wife of Lloyd Witmer, V. Cheryl Lausch, companion of Ronald Kelsey, V. Patrick, husband of Jane Adams, and Venessa, wife of Nathan Buckwalter.
In addition to his parents, Vern was preceded in death by a daughter, Joy Huhn, who passed away in 2016 and his former wife, Judith Lemon Herr.

A Celebration of Life service will be held for family and friends in the new year.
