Obituary for Myron Edward "Ed" Ruth Jr.

M. Edward Ruth, Jr., of Lititz, PA, beloved husband and dad, passed away on Saturday, December 14, 2019, after a brief illness.

Ed loved his family and friends, and his love of music was a big part of his life. He was a lifelong drummer in several bands including The Vandals, The New Jerusalem Carpenter Co, The Moonlighters, the Lititz Community Band, and most recently the Lititz Moravian Stars. His band members were like family to him. He was a member of the Lititz Moravian Church and played in the trombone choir for many years.

Ed grew up in Rothsville, PA and was a volunteer fireman. He served as a medic in the Army Reserves. Ed retired from PPandL after a 41-year career. In his retirement, he volunteered with the Manheim Historical Society, the caboose in the Lititz Springs Park, and loved to tell people about the history of the trolleys and trains in Lancaster County. Ed loved trains, big and small, and was a model train enthusiast. His wife and daughters have many happy memories of watching and riding trains. Ed loved muscle cars, especially the Chevelle he drove in the 60’s. He also loved roller coasters and amusement parks and the family has many happy memories of their trips to Hershey Park. Ed loved the ocean and the annual family trips to Ocean City, New Jersey, were always a special time. He rarely missed watching the Flyers or Phillies and never passed up the opportunity to eat a good cheesesteak.

Ed will be lovingly remembered and missed by the love of his life and wife, Laurie J. Ruth; his daughters, Valerie (Ruth) Anwari and Heather (Ruth) Pattle; his sons-in-law, Faried Anwari and Philip Pattle; his grandchildren, Arieana and Ryan Anwari and Emma and Henry Pattle; his brother and sister-in-law, Tim and Judy Strickler; a nephew Eric Strickler and many cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Myron Edward Ruth, Sr. and Esther (Auker) Ruth.

A memorial service celebrating Ed’s life will be held Saturday, April 25, 2020 at 11:00 am at the Lititz Moravian Church, 8 Church Square, Lititz. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.
