Obituary for Kevin L. Spangler

Kevin L. Spangler, 58, of Ephrata, passed away on Thursday, October 29, 2020, at home. He was born in Ephrata to Edna (Hornberger) Rupp, wife of John M. Rupp and Glen Spangler. Kevin was the husband of Amy S. Spangler, whom he married on February 16, 2016. In addition to his wife and parents, Kevin is survived by a son, Jaylen Kramer Spangler; a daughter, Amber L. Pinkerton; his brother, Daryl Spangler, fiancé of Michelle Shober and a stepsister, Jessica Sanders. He is also survived by nephews, Dylan and Max and a niece, Brooke. He attended Highpoint Community Church in Ephrata.

Amazingly, Kevin was a graduate of Ephrata High School, class of 1981. He was a sports enthusiast, a die-hard Dallas Cowboys and Penn State football fan. Kevin enjoyed playing basketball and developed an unstoppable hook shot. Later, he was an avid golfer who loved to gamble with his friends. One thing that he was extremely passionate about was helping to raise funds for Relay for Life. He was instrumental in hosting many fundraiser events to help raise thousands of dollars to battle cancer.

Kevin built a successful 35-year career selling automobiles throughout Lancaster County. For the last 14 years, he was a buyer for Huber’s Auto Group in Ephrata. Kevin was best known for his quick wit and infectious smile. No matter where he went, everyone knew “Spang” and most knew NOT to ask him to bring his toolbox. If you lived in the Ephrata area and were not fortunate enough to know Spang, there is a very good chance your friends, parents, or siblings knew him. No words can describe how much he will be missed. From his closest friends to total strangers, Spang was Spang, as genuine as a person could be. He loved everyone and everything unconditionally and would have given you the shirt off his back if you needed it. Everything he did, he did with a bang. . . GO BIG or GO HOME! His presence will be deeply missed, and his soul can now finally rest.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, November 5, 2020, from 2 to 5 PM at Stradling Funeral Home, 30 N. Ninth Street, Akron. Services and internment will be private at the convenience of the family.
