Obituary for Iris Hope Fry (Rice)

Iris Hope Fry, 95, of Ephrata, passed away on Thursday, September 26, 2019, at Ephrata Manor.

She was born in Martic Township to John E. and Emma M. (Kurtz) Rice and was the wife of the late John Zinn Fry, "Fry the Plumber."

She attended Berean Bible Church and Fivepointville Bible Church.

Iris was a seamstress for Terre Mfg. She enjoyed crossword and word search puzzles, babysitting and in earlier years, boating in the Chesapeake Bay near Charlestown, MD. Her and John were former members and past officers of the Lancaster Squadron Flotilla #51 and #54. Her family was her life. A born again Christian, she enjoyed sharing her faith with her family, friends and co-workers.

Iris is survived by six children, John H. Fry, Thomas A. Fry, Ellen M., wife of the late Melvin Witmer, all of Ephrata, Martha P., wife of Willis Witmer of Laurelton, Timothy L., husband of Diane E. (Wise) Fry, Philip L., husband of Nancy J. Wise, both also of Ephrata; 13 grandchildren:, 25 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great-grandchild.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son, William R. "Randy" Fry. She was also preceded in death by four siblings, June Smawley, J. Everett "Fritz" Rice, Rupert K. "Chubb" Rice and Ethel R. Zander and three grandchildren.

A viewing will be held on Monday, September 30, 2019 from 1 to 2 PM at Stradling Funeral Home, 30 N. 9th Street, Akron,, followed by a short funeral service at 2:00 PM. Interment will take place in the Hahnstown United Zion Cemetery.
