Obituary for Gordon B. Barnes

Gordon B. Barnes, 75, Of New Holland, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, August 16th, 2020, after a brief illness.

He was born in Grove City to the late Aaron Guiher Barnes and Claribel (Giebner) Barnes. In 1969 Gordon received the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal savior and the baptism in the Holy Spirit. This experience revolutionized his life. At the Lighthouse, Stoneboro, PA, he became a licensed minister of the gospel.

In May of 1970 Gordon met his wife of 49 years, Diann L. Cozad of Greenville, PA. They were married in the Lighthouse Chapel on September 19, 1970.

Gordon had passion for people and loved deep, especially the incarcerated. He received a call to prison ministry while working as a correctional officer at Mercer County Jail where his father was a deputy warden. Later, Gordon became a professional driver and drove for over 30 years. He always made time to stop and pray with a lonely trucker or minister to an individual in jail, prison or simply the disenfranchised.

In addition to his wife, Gordon is survived by Gina B. Kays, Matthew and Dena Straub, Timothy and Jennie Straub and the delight of his heart, nine grandchildren: Samuel Gordon Kays and Brianna Kays, Devorah N. Staub, Adelynn L. Straub, Stephen M. Straub, Clarissa D. Straub, Cheyenne R. Straub, Dakota K. Straub and Kaliska A. Straub. He is also survived by a beloved sister, Wenda (Lily) Barnes Gramlich.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to The Lord's Sanctuary, Nakuru, Kenya. Please make checks payable and mail to Good Shepherd Community Church, MEMO: Kenya, PO Box 272, Reamstown, PA 17567.
