Obituary

Dr. George R. Dunkelberger, 74, of Madeira Beach, FL, formerly of Ephrata, passed quietly on March 30, 2019, following a lengthy illness.

He was the son of the late Dr. L. Roy and Evelyn Dunkelberger.

Dr. Dunkelberger graduated from Valley Forge Military Academy in 1963 and Elizabethtown College in 1969, with a B.S. in Biology. He attended the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine and graduated in 1975. In 1977, he completed his internship and residency at Community General Osteopathic Hospital in Harrisburg. He practiced at 700 Pershing Avenue in Ephrata from 1977 to 1983 with his father, who retired in 1983. Dr. Dunkelberger continued to practice in Ephrata until 2007 when he moved his practice to South Seventh Street in Akron. After 37 years of caring for his beloved patients he retired in May of 2014.
He was on the active staff of Ephrata Community Hospital and the Lancaster Osteopathic Hospital (Heart of Lancaster). He was a lifetime member of the Pennsylvania Osteopathic Medical Association and the American Osteopathic Association.

Dr. Dunkelberger enjoyed time with his grandchildren, walking, and spectator sports - Flyers, Dodgers, and Eagles, and was always looking for a good snowstorm, which he has not seen since moving to Florida, and a good steak.

Dr. Dunkelberger was preceded in death by his brother, Gary, and his parents. Surviving is a sister, G. Ann Brown; a son, Dr. Roger Dunkelberger (Sherri) of St Petersburg, FL; two daughters, Alicia Shavlan, R.N. (Michael) of St Petersburg, FL and Suzie Homack (Anthony) of Glenside and six grandsons, Marley, Haven, Harrison, Trevor, Evan, and Drew.

A viewing will be held Saturday, April 6, 2019, from 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM at the Berean Bible Church, 675 Lincoln Gardens Road, Ephrata, followed by funeral services at 1:00 PM with Pastor Kelly Sensenig officiating. Interment will take place in Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Arrangements by Stradling Funeral Homes, Inc., Akron/Ephrata.
