Obituary for Annetta M. Zimmerman (Gettle)

Annetta M. “Nettie” Zimmerman, 93, formerly of Hershey, passed away on Sunday, September 4, 2022, at the Londonderry Village in Palmyra.

She was born in Reamstown to the late Henry and Coreta (Heil) Gettle and was the wife of the late Paul R. Zimmerman who passed in 2011.

She graduated from Ephrata High School in 1946 and worked in Ephrata, at Mohler’s store, until moving to Hershey, where she joined a sales company (Tupperware), during which she received national recognition for sale and leadership. After 50 years she retired in 2005 to enjoy her family, camping, crocheting, and all kinds of puzzles. She served in many church functions: taught Sunday School, secretary, kitchen coordinator, youth leader, and deaconess. She also served as a house parent for Milton Hershey School with her husband. She was a member of the Temple Bible Church in Elizabethtown.

Nettie is survived by three sons, Thomas L. Zimmerman, husband of Darlene (Graby) of Mechanicsburg, Timothy L. Zimmerman, husband of Elizabeth (O'Connor) of Denver and Theodore M. Zimmerman, husband of Janet (Harris) of Hummelstown; six grandchildren, Amy Zimmerman, Jennifer Pynda, Katie Gregg, Joseph Zimmerman, Jessica Bartsch, and Matthew Zimmerman and eight great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Robert P. Zimmerman; a brother, Lowell S. Gettle, and a sister, Ruth Fisher.

A viewing will be held on Monday, September 12, 2022 from 6 to 8 PM at Stradling Funeral Home, 201 Church Avenue, Ephrata. An additional viewing will be held on Tuesday, September 13, 2022 from 9 to 10 AM at Ephrata United Zion Church, 408 East Fulton Street, Ephrata, followed by funeral services at 10:00 AM with Pastor Andy Hawes officiating. Interment will take place in the Hahnstown United Zion Cemetery.
