When a woman is faced with meeting her future mother-in-law for the first time, she’s naturally a little apprehensive. Will she like me? Will I like her? Well, I should have known that I had nothing to worry about; after all, Alberta Rodgers had raised a very fine son who would soon be my husband. In fact, Alberta Rodgers raised two very fine sons. Of all the things Alberta had to be proud of, I think she was most proud of her boys, Ricky and Billy. No matter how many years passed, the boys remained Ricky and Billy to Alberta; and, although we laughed about this many times over the years, this was one of Alberta’s most endearing characteristics, her steadfast love and devotion to her family. I feel grateful to have known Alberta; she was always kind and generous towards me, and more than one friend expressed envy over the easy relationship Alberta and I had. Goodbye and farewell, Alberta. Thank you for all the lovely memories.

I had the privilege to have Alberta as my Mother. She was always supportive, encouraging, and delightful to be around. She took joy in simple pleasures - polishing stones to see what they would look like, making things from plastic canvas to decorate, and taking photographs of almost anything that would stand still long enough (and some that wouldn't). She would also drive anyone around that needed to get somewhere until she was no longer able to do that. All these were things in which she took joy. She is now at rest with her loving husband in the arms of God (probably taking pictures of Him).
