Russell H. Hertzog, 78, a competitive Strongman, of Ephrata, went to be with his Lord on Saturday, October 8, 2016, at Lancashire Hall.

He was born in the Ephrata area to the late Reuben and Edith (Hersh) Hertzog.

Russell was a concrete finisher for Stief Concrete for more than 40 years. He was an Olympic style weight lifter, competing from 1959-1963 and was a mentor for Mike and Ray Mentzer who both went on to become Mr. America.
Russell is survived by 3 sons, Shane E. Hertzog of Ephrata, (fiancé of Lisa Hoover); Robert Hertzog of Lebanon; Terry, (Donna) Hertzog of Elk County; a daughter, Cheryl, wife of Rick Ingram of Lincoln; a brother, Gordon H. (Sylvia) Hertzog of Ephrata; a sister, Loretta Hertzog of Ephrata; 7 grandchildren, Jessica and Christy, Joshua and Chad, Melanie, Renee and Ashley and numerous great-grandchildren.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, October 13, 2016, from 6 to 8 PM, at the Stradling Funeral Home, 201 Church Avenue, Ephrata. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.
