Obituary for Lester Ziemer

Lester Ziemer, 95, of Ephrata, passed away on Saturday, June 6, 2015, at Ephrata Manor.

He was born in Blue Ball to the late Norman and Cora (Rutter) Ziemer and was the husband of Grace I. (Sweigart) Ziemer, with whom he shared 76 years of marriage on June 3rd.

Lester served in the U.S. Army during WWII, in the Pacific theatre. In the early years, he was a mechanical worker for Penn Dairies in Ephrata and Lancaster. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, tying flies, reloading, and general tinkering.

In addition to his wife, Lester is survived by a daughter, Carolyn wife of Fred Zuercher of Garfield, Kentucky; 6 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Norm, husband of Janet Ziemer; and 3 sisters, Clara Maxwell, Grace Habalar, and Mildred Boley.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia Elmer.

A viewing will be held on Thursday, June 11, 2015 from 1 to 2 pm, at the Stradling Funeral Home, 201 Church Ave., Ephrata, followed by funeral services at 2 pm, with Pastor Kenneth R. Redcay officiating. Interment will take place in the Bergstrasse Lutheran Cemetery.
