Obituary for Phillip Evan Longenecker

Phillip Evan Longenecker, 52, of Lancaster, born May 28, 1962, died suddenly on March 4, 2015.

He was the son of Miriam Snavely Longenecker of Landis Homes and the late Martin Longenecker. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his brothers, Randy Longenecker of Athens, OH, Terry Longenecker of Kalispell, MT, Nelson Longenecker of Elizabethtown, PA, Mike Longenecker of Lancaster, PA and Kevin Longenecker of Harrisonburg, VA.

He was a member of Rossmere Mennonite Church. He was a graduate of Lancaster Mennonite High School, Hesston College and he attended Trinity Western University in British Columbia. Phil loved people. He never met someone he didn't know or couldn't connect with. His family and church community were a big part of his life. Phil loved geography and history and collected flags. He volunteered at the Lancaster Mennonite Historical Society and No Longer Alone Ministries. He enjoyed singing, was a lifelong Redskins fan, and was an avid cyclist. One of his proudest achievements was bicycling coast to coast along the U.S. and Canadian border in the early 1980s.

Phil was looking forward to attending Mennonite World Conference this July in Harrisburg. He would have loved making new friends and connections and reuniting with old acquaintances there.

At age 52, Phil's life ended too soon. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

A brief graveside service is planned for 1 pm, Wednesday, March 11, at Shope's Cemetery, near Middletown, PA. A memorial service will be held in his honor on Wednesday, March 11, at 7 pm, at the Landis Homes, West Bethany Chapel, 1001 E. Oregon Rd., Lititz.. Family will receive guests an hour before and following the service.

Memorial contributions in Phil's memory may be made to No Longer Alone Ministries, 630 Janet Ave., Suite A107, Lancaster, PA 17601.
