Obituary for Victor J.W. Christie

Dr. Victor J.W. Christie Jr., 91, of Ephrata, passed away on Saturday, December 1, 2012, at Hospice and Community Care, Lancaster, after a recent illness.

He was born in Garfield, N.J. to the late Victor Sr. and Lena (Swarts) Christie and was the husband of the late Betty Jeanne (Nelson) Christie who died March 8, 1995.

Dr. Christie was a member of the Hope United Methodist Church, Ephrata. A life member of the Ephrata VFW Post #3376, the Ephrata Amvets and the Cloister Post 429 of the American Legion, Ephrata.

Dr. Christie retired as the Superintendent of Schools for the Neptune Township Public School System in New Jersey in 1985 after 25 years of service. He was also a published author. He was a graduate of Garfield High School class of 1937, received his education degree from Patterson University, his Masters Degree from Farleigh Dickenson University and his Doctorate (Ed.D) degree from Rutgers University. He was a veteran of WWII, having served in the US Army as a surgical army technician.

Victor is survived by 3 daughters, Wendy J. Christie of Stevens, Patti Christie Miller of Manassas, VA, Laurie Jean Christie of Ephrata; 5 grandchildren, Adam, Logan and Morgan Buccolo, Sean and Ashley Pierce; 2 great grandchildren, Gavin and Trystan Buccolo.


A viewing will be held on Monday, December 3, from 2 to 3 pm at the Stradling Funeral Home, 201 Church Avenue, Ephrata, followed by funeral services at 3 pm, with Pastor James L. Garner, Jr. officiating. Military honors will be accorded by the Red Rose Veterans Honor Guard.

Private interment will take place in the Clove Cemetery, Wantage, New Jersey.
